Lawyer, Barrister or Solicitor ?

  • Par jean-michel.camus le

The french legal system does not make any difference between solicitors and barristers. In the french legal system, the so called AVOCATS are both barristers and solicitors, and they can plea in front of lower and high Courts, including Courts of appeal. The sole exception is the supreme Court, called " Cour de Cassation", with specialized lawyers called " avocats aux conseils", there are all in Paris.

But differently to the UK legal system the french lawyers are not able to proceed with real estates purchasing contract, even if they are used to prepare them, especially about the inheritance and tax issues.

The french lawyers are also used to deal with business and Cie's shares transfer, as well as creating, modifying and dissolving companies.
